Let us glance through some of the highlights of the event:

Jennifer Lopez was able to out an amazing opener show on the day of the event. Doubling up as both, the performer and the host of the evening, Jennifer rocked on the stage as she danced off to a medley of this year’s biggest hits.

Celine Dion brought the whole audience to tears after singing Piaf’s Hymne a l’Amoure as a tribute to the Paris attacks. A montage of the Paris landmarks played behind her during her performance that included images of candlelight vigils and the city uniting against terrorism. As Celine’s voice soared for the last incredible note, an image of the Eiffel Tower lit up with the flag colours displayed.

She then introduced Jared Leto on stage. The Thirty Seconds to Mars vocalist paid tribute to his friend who was killed at the Bataclan concert hall, along with many who lost their lives. He concluded by saying the 'entire world matters' and that many in the US, including Steve Jobs and President Obama, were children of emigrants.

The American Awards also paid tribute to Star Wars that evening, debuting a brand new scene from the most anticipated sequel ‘The Force Awakens’. Actor Harrison Ford introduced a capella group Pentatonix, where they performed the theme song ‘in a way you’ve never heard before.’

Selena Gomez hit the limelight to present her single "Same Old Love" in a rhinestone bodysuit, and between her stifling voice and her breakout dancing, the singer got the crowd on their feet and singing along.

The event ended with Justin Beiber’s stellar performance. He started off with an acoustic version of ‘What do you mean’ with the arena pitch black with only lights of purple glow sticks.

Bieber then broke into a heavier variant of "Where Are Ü Now" in front of a light show and a group of backup dancers. He flung the mic to the side and broke out into his big dance number for the song. After the dance, Bieber picked up the mic and walked out into a rain shower, where he looked to welcome the flowing water while he sang his hit "Sorry."

All three present something of an icon makeover for the young Bieber. The songs are low-key, mainly friendly and harmonised with light-stepping electronics. It was a more grown-up, reserved Bieber, one with a surprisingly unifying approach to his sound.

And just like that, the 2015 AMAs ended.
