The Biggest Heavy Metal Music Festival - Monsters Of Rock

Started in May 1988, the Monsters of Rock tour brought together some of the biggest hard rock and heavy metal bands of that era for a day-long rock ‘n’ roll festival. Monster of Rock is held every year in Castle Donington, England. However, the festival later diverged to other parts of the world like The Netherlands, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Argentina, Italy and France. This festival is mainly organized for hard rock and heavy metal lovers by Paul Loasby and Maurice Jones in 1979.

But why that name, exactly? Back in England, the Donington Monsters of Rock festival had become a highly awaited permanent fixture of the international rock circuit since first being staged in 1980, typically involving a one-day affair featuring seven, eight or even more notable bands.

But in the U.S., where far greater geographical distances made producing a single, massive concert much less practical, it was decided to apply the highly respected Monsters of Rock brand to a full-fledged tour, featuring Van Halen, the Scorpions, Dokken, Metallica and Kingdom Come.

With a continuously growing popularity and increasing size of the audience, two people died during Guns N’ Roses performance, in 1988. For this reason, the festival was dismissed the following year. The event returned in 1990 with a strict limitation to only 75,000 people in the audience.

This year’s event on 25th and 26th April 2015, at Sao Paulo, Anhembi Conventional Center, had performances from bands like Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Manowar, Accept, Black Veil Brides, Rival Sons, Steel Panther, Unisonic, Coal Chamber, Primal Fear and Yngwie Malmsteen.

There was a follow-up of two days of this festival, on 28th and 30th April in Brazil only, at Porto Alegre, Estadio Passo d’Areia with almost the same bands. At Buenos Aires, Ciudad del Rock, Argentina, on 2nd May 2015, the festival was celebrated with stage coverance by Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Carajo, Malon, Plan 4, El Buen Salvaje and Heavysaurios.
