Sully Erna and The Paths We Choose

Enlisted in the Top 100 Heavy Metal Vocalists by Hit Parader, Salvatore Paul “Sully” Erna is not only a singer and songwriter but also a master of guitar, drums, harmonica, piano, trumpet, keyboards, percussions and many more. The multi-talented artist had started playing drums at the age of three and grew up on piano. By the time he was five, he was already covering the classic song ‘Wipeout’.

He was not much into reading sheet music, and he preferred listening to music and then playing it by ear. After he had turned fourteen, he started meeting a lot of musicians and joined the various cover bands. In 1993, he signed his first record deal with Strip Mind. However, the band soon self-destructed. After two years, Sully started his own project by the name ‘Godsmack’.

Although he is a lead vocalist and primary songwriter in the band, he is seen playing on various instruments during few of his recordings and performances. So, emerging as a drummer he came out as a successful vocalist.

He has also written a memoir titled, ‘The Paths We Choose’, which was released on 7th February 2007, his 39th birthday. This journal recorded his journey since the time of his birth till he started with the band Godsmack. Godsmack is his dream, and this memoir is all about his difficulties and path that led him to Godsmack.
