Here is a List of the Finest Music Festivals in India

India has started hosting a variety of music concerts all around the country. From organizing underground gigs to hosting 3-4 days festival, India has begun to be recognized as an excellent venue for international bands. In the past decade, we have seen bands like Karnivool, Simple Plan, Iron Maiden, Gojira, Lamb of God, Mutemath and countless other prolific bands performing for the Indian crowd. Needless to say, organizing such festivals require a tremendous amount of planning and strategies. But, we have conquered, and there has been no stopping since then.

Some of the most epic festivals are listed below:

NH7 Weekender

NH7 Weekender is a 2-3 days festival that takes place in Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Bangalore and Sikkim (Sikkim is the newest addition to the list of cities). Originally started in Pune by Vijay Nair, Martin Elbourne and Stephen Budd, the festival quickly became a crowd favorite within a span of 2 years. The festival attracts a mixed crowd, thanks to the multi-genre idea of the festival. We have the Black Rock Arena for the metalheads, the Dubstation for the Electro lovers, the Dewarist stage for the calm and composed. So basically, it is a festival that celebrates music that is non-Bollywood in nature.

Bangalore Open Air

This is a festival that is entirely Metal in nature. A brainchild of Salman U. Syed, BOA is an extension of the famous Wacken Open Air that takes place annually in Wacken, Germany. First held in 2012, we have seen bands like Suidakra and Kreator in their first edition, along with Indian bands like Albatross. 1833AD, Bevar Sea and many more opening the set. The second edition of BOA was supposed to have two Indian acts, Millenium and Demonic Ressurection, however, Millenium pulled out owing to Rohit Chaturvedi's commitment to join Kryptos on their Europe tour. BOA 2013 boasted of big international names such as Animals as Leaders, Ihsahn, Dark Tranquility, Sodom, Leprous and headlined by Iced Earth. Unfortunately, Sodom had to cancel their performance due to Visa issues.

Of course, we have festivals that host metal gigs. But BOA is the first festival that hosts ONLY Metal gigs!

Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay

This is the only college-level festival in our list. But, the planning it carries out, may as well bring this fest to almost the same level as the above two festivals. It witnesses a footfall of over 80,000 students from more than 700 colleges across the country. The festival came into existence in 1971. They got Ensiferum in 2008 as their first international act, and since then, we saw bands like Karnivool, Porcupine Tree and Simple Plan live.

Sunburn Festival

Sunburn Festival is an electronic music festival that takes place in Goa, every year. Spread over three days, the festival has multiple stages and a crowd count of more than 50,000 each year. We have every internationally known artist from various countries playing their set here, like Carl Cox, Above and Beyond, Axwell and Hardwell as headlining acts. It all started in 2007 when Percept partnered with Nikhil Chinapa and organized the first International Dance Music Festival in Goa, India.

Mahindra Blues Festival

Perhaps the only festival that caters to the most niche genre in India today, Mahindra Blues Festival has been pulling a huge amount of crowd. It has successfully pulled off the last two edition with glory and is a final stop for all the Blues lover here. Undoubtedly, the impressive international line-up has as much to do with its popularity as its easy organization.
The entertaining headlining acts by blues legend Buddy Guy in the past two years that made the fest worth the money.
